Written by Lino Iglesias
Making display of her great musical talent & the evident love that she feels towards the Puerto Rican culture, Dutch Trombonist; May Peters presents us with an exceptional musical production in the Latin Jazz genre that pays tribute to the contribution of Puerto Rican women to the musical culture of the island of enchantment, Puerto Rico.
The album entitled "Tributo De Tambor Y Trombon En Clave De Mujer Boricua" (Tribute Of Drum & Trombone In Key Of Puerto Rican Women) is an exquisite dish of Afro Caribbean tasty rhythms contained in 10 singular tracks that will surely please the ears of the most demanding listeners thanks to the original concept created by May Peters, in collaboration with the great Pianist/Arranger Eric Figueroa & a select group of outstanding Puerto Rican musicians, who re-created with new Jazzy arrangements a number of musical top hit tunes that were composed by a premier group of women, Puerto Rican composers, that were very successful at the time of the original release of these songs in Puerto Rico, as well as in Latin America. These legendary Puerto Rican female composers honored by May Peters are: Sylvia Rexach, Iris Chacon, Lily Delgado, Lucy Fabery, Gloria Gonzalez, Zulma Angelica Gonzalez & Puchi Balseiro.
This production is one of the best recordings of actual times in the genre of Tropical Jazz, given that it posses a dynamic variety of rhythms that energetically & subtly stimulate the ear of the listener with surprising musical movements, in conjunction with enigmatic melodies of the past that frame the singular sound & musical mastery of May Peters & her melodic Trombone, as well as the impeccable musical work of Eric Figueroa and all the musicians that participated in this great project.
I wanted to highlight some of the most outstanding tracks of this album, but it was practically impossible, given that all the tunes are musical gems in their own right, but what I can surely do is to invite all the lovers of high quality Jazz to embark in this mystical musical trip that May Peters provides us with her production "Tribute Of Drum & Trombone In Key Of Puerto Rican Women" and to feel it's vibrant creative energy of optimal quality performance.
